Do you know I’ve never posted a Mardi Gras-related post?
We must rectify this problem immediately, don’t you agree?
I honestly have no excuse; the idea of a holiday that involves tons of delicious food sounds like a dream come true to me. It’s sort of like a second Thanksgiving, but since the date of “Fat Tuesday” always changes, I end up remembering it the day of when a bunch of Mardi Gras-related posts end up in my news feed.
Then I’m bummed out and think to myself “Oh shucks, I guess I’ll try again next year.”
This year, my friends, I present to you Mardi Gras King Cake Doughnuts!
These Mardi Gras King Cake Doughnuts are baked (not fried), flavored with plenty of cinnamon, and topped with traditional green, gold and purple colored sugars. It’s a Fat Tuesday party contained in one glorious doughnut.
I’ve always been inspired by the bright, bold colors of Mardi Gras, and I’m so happy with how these doughnuts turned out! If you don’t happen to have green, gold, and purple sprinkles lying around, you can totally do what I did and just dye some granulated sugar with food coloring.
I just added a few drops of my gel food colors to a bowl with granulated sugar and rubbed the food coloring into the sugar with my fingers. If you don’t want your fingers to be Mardi Gras colors, you could also put a lid on the bowl and shake the sugar until the color is evenly dispersed.
Once I dunked the cinnamon doughnuts in a vanilla glaze, I just went one color of sugar at a time, starting with purple, sprinkling a sort-of-straight line down each doughnut. Then I just repeated with gold and green until all the doughnuts were done.
Then I ate them all.
Then I shared them with all my co-workers and they were a smash hit! I hope they bring some fun to your Mardi Gras festivities, whatever they may be.
