I thought it would be only fitting to do an end of the year recap for “On Sugar Mountain”, since we’ve come so far this year and I cannot wait to see what 2013 brings.
The first major change would be that we are now on WordPress. I am stubborn and I’ll admit it: I did not want to make the move. However, slowly but surely, Blogger managed to annoy the crap out of me and WordPress opened its arms, with lovely dynamic themes and a simplicity (not to mention a lovely iPhone app) that could not be rivaled.
What a change huh?
I am in love with this new layout, and I thank you all for being so patient as I played around with different themes here on the blog. It was always nice, but never quite where I wanted it to be. Then you get that “aha!” moment and you discover a theme that just feels like it was made exclusively for you.
Though I started this blog in 2011, it really didn’t take off until 2012. I finally learned how to edit photos, and I try to post at least twice a week. Though this gets a tad tough with college courses, a job, and a student organization to run, I had the wonderful opportunity to take a Blogging Class this Fall, which helped with the time constraints.
One of my posts on Birthday Cake Fudge made it to FoodBuzz Top 9 in May
And the Microwave Chocolate Chip Cookie has over 850 repins on Pinterest!
This year was also full of self-discovery for yours truly. Baking is my stress-reliever, my “happy place” and for a little while there I let it become a stress-inducer. I’d completely forgotten the goals of not only my blog, but the reasons for which I bake in the first place.
So now, I stress less about the posts, about “if” the photos look good, about all the other “ifs” and just try to let it all happen organically. True, you all get to here my little crazy spirals of where my life is going, but knowing I have friends to help me through it (and a cookie to scarf down after the post) makes it all worth it 😉
Where are we going in 2013? Well honestly, I’m not totally sure. It will be my final semester of college (EEK!) so I plan to go out with a bang. I plan to continue to blog well after graduation, and I can let you all in on a secret about some of next year’s posts.
Sorry. The semester’s done so I’m a little weird today 🙂
I’ve found that I haven’t been experimenting with any new muffin recipes in ages, and after the huge success of the Eggnong Streuself Muffins, I plan to do one post on muffins a week!
ARE YOU READY?!
There will be so many muffins. So I hope so.
And, well, that’s that. Before I go I’d like to take a moment to thank all of my readers, followers, subscribers, Facebook “Likers” etc, because without you and your support I don’t know where I’d be.
It warms my heart that complete strangers, all across the world, can become good friends over the internet and share in each other’s lives, even if it’s only with a sweet treat. Every like, every comment, makes my day, and I cannot thank you all enough for all the love.
I wish you a Happy New Year, and lots of love and good luck in 2013!
